He graduated from Bowdoin College in 1894 and Andover Theological Seminary in 1902. Libby became a [[Congregational]] minister and joined the [[Society of Friends]] (Quakers) in 1921.

Federick Libby married Faith Ward (1902-1984) in 1932. She was also a peace activist and member of the [[Women's International League for Peace and Freedom]].

In 1938 he organized the [[Keep America Out of War Congress]].
