The Hebrews were a people that were the ancestors of the Jews. Biblical scholars use the term until the stated conquest of Palestine. Thereafter, they are referred to as Israelites until the return from the Babylonian Exile, after which the term Jews is used.
However, in the Bible, "Hebrew" is a name usually used by other peoples for the Israelites, rather than one used by the Israelites themselves.
